Who Said It Disney Princess Edition Cover

Walt Disney Pictures

Disney has managed to create some of the most quotable movies out there, so it comes as no surprise that most of us can recite our favorite movies line for line. Still, there can be some quotes that come as more of a curveball. Put your royal knowledge to the test and see if you have what it takes to match the princess to her line!

1: "How dare you? All of you, standing around deciding my future? I am not a prize to be won!"

“Aladdin” is part of a series of stories called “The Thousand and One Nights”, or “The Arabian Nights”. These stories-within-stories are spun together by a woman who is forced to marry a murderous king who kills his wives the night after the wedding. By telling such captivating tails the woman succeeds in extending her life. Some of the other famous tails include “Sinbad” and the tale of “Ali Baba.”

2: "They can't order me to stop dreaming."

What many people don’t know is that “Cinderella” was Disney’s saving grace. When they decided to make the film back in 1948 the company was $4 million dollars in debt. If it hadn’t been for the films wild success Disney animation might have ceased to exist.

3: "You control your destiny — you don't need magic to do it."

Originally Reese Witherspoon was supposed to voice the feisty Merida. However, due to scheduling conflicts, the role was given to an up and coming Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald, which honestly is only appropriate.

4: “Remember you’re the one who can fill the world with sunshine.”

Apparently all the animators who worked on “Snow White” believed that Walt Disney had amazingly expressive eyebrows. With the exception of Happy, the animators modeled all of the dwarf’s eyebrows after Walt’s.

5: “This Is Awkward. Not You're Awkward But Just Cause We're-I'm Awkward. You're Gorgeous. Wait What?”

If you haven’t seen “Frozen” then spoiler alert! Princess Anna made Disney history by being the first Disney princess to perform a duet with the movie’s villain. We’re sure we weren’t the only ones caught up in the romantic moment between these two characters, which is what makes Han’s betrayal later int he movie so devastating.

6: “This is the path I choose, father. What will yours be?”

While the exact date is unknown, the release of the movie was made to coincide with the 400th anniversary of Pocahontas’s birthday. With the movie released in 1995, it is believed that Pocahontas was born sometime in 1595.

7: “Oh, dear. Why do they still treat me like a child?”

“Sleeping Beauty” originally did so poorly, when compared with the cost of production, that Disney concluded that princess movies might not be worth the investment. This is why the company didn’t make another princess film until 30 years later, releasing “The Little Mermaid” in 1989.

8: “There is no way I am kissing a frog and eating a bug on the same day.”

In the new millennia, Disney Animation Studios turned away from hand-drawn animation choosing instead to focus on CGI-animated movies like “Toy Story”. However, with the creation of “The Princess and The Frog,” Disney returned to the traditional style that Walt himself made popular.

9: “What’s that word again?”

While a beloved classic today, many aren’t aware that the hit song “Part of Your World” was almost removed from the movies about the first test run showed that a young audience was less than thrilled with the delivery of the song. Luckily the producers held off until the scene was more complete and decided to keep it in after a second screening showed more positive reviews.

10: “If you hadn't hold still, it wouldn't have hurt as much.”

While we all fell in love with Angela Lansbury’s rendition of “Beauty and the Beast” originally she thought another character might be more suited to sing the song. Luckily the director convinced her to record at least one take of the song, which ended up being the one used in the film.

11: “Your beard is so … twisted.”

In the original telling of “Aladdin,” Jasmine is already betrothed to the vizier’s son, and while Aladdin tries to win her hand by lavishing the Sultan with gifts it is to no avail. Not one to be defeated Aladdin kidnaps the vizier’s son until he agrees to have the marriage annulled.

12: “Don’t be such a guppy.”

The shark that Ariel and Flounder escape from earlier in the movie actually has a name! Named Glut, the shark was originally supposed to return later in the movie for another confrontation with flounder, but to simplify the story the scene got cut.

13: “Okay, first, I’m not a princess.”

While we have all fallen in love with the story and journey that Moana embarks on, originally the story was meant to center around Maui with Moana being a secondary character off to rescue a love interest, and Maui was supposed to be bald! Thankfully after much deliberation, they decided to center the story around Moana’s journey across the ocean and gave Maui the magnificent mane we all love.

14: “There’s nobody like him anywhere at all.”

Adriana Caselotti was only paid $9,707 for voicing Snow White, and her strict contract kept her from most acting work after the picture was completed. While this did hinder her career, she instead went into opera while continuing to provide her voice for that of Snow White throughout her life.

15: “We must simply have courage and be kind.”

Because Disney was taking such a risk in creating “Cinderella,” they couldn’t spend a lot of money on the production as they had with “Cinderella’s” predecessors “Fantasia” and “Pinnochio.” To save on animation creation time they shot the entire movie in live-action first to give the designers a base to work with. While it may have helped to cut costs, the animators weren’t too happy about their lack of creative freedom.

16: “Dogs?”

What many might not know is that Ryan Gosling was offered the role of the beast for the 2017 adaption of the film. However, he turned it down to accept the lead role in La La Land. Coincidentally, Emma Watson was originally offered the starring role in La La Land but turned it down so she could accept the role of Belle.

17: “Find your humanity! Haven’t any of you ever had a dream?”

In order to create Flynn Rider’s signature look and beloved smolder, the studio held a meeting where several women from the studio brought in pictures of male actors and celebrities and discussed what they found attractive about each. Using this unique “hot guy” meeting the directors and animators crafted the stunning face of Flynn Rider!

18: "It Is Not Nice To Throw People!"

In order to make “Frozen” look as realistic as possible, the animation team used a snowflake generator to create over 2,000 different snowflakes. The animation team also visited an ice hotel in Quebec, Hotel De Glace, to get a feel for what they were creating.

19: “Fine. You can't marry a man you just met.”

The original concept for “Frozen” was thought up by Walt back in the ’40s with Elsa originally pegged as the movie’s villain. While it took many years before the studio would actually attempt to bring Frozen to life, it wasn’t until the director heard the lyrics to “Let It Go” that they decided to rewrite the entire script and find themselves a new bad guy.

20: “Reflect before you snack—act!”

Disney often refers to an official Disney princess as one who is either born into royalty or marries into it. Mulan however, is the only official Disney princess who does not meet these criteria. Focused on finding her own path the film follows her personal journey to support her family and pursue her own ambitions.
